What do you mean by deductive method

Hello friends as you know that deductive method is generally asked in many teaching exams so today we know about this method why it is used?, it's merit and demerits. 

Definition 

It is a method of reasoning by applications or consequences are deducted from general principles or theorems are deduced from definitions and postulates. "All the green apples are sour in taste" The child may be told that eat the green apple because they are sour. Later he can confirm this fact by tasting the green apples.

Principles of Deductive Method

It  moves from Abstract to Concrete, General to Particular, and Formula to Examples. Students are given formula/rules/laws/principles directly and they solve the problems.

 

Examples of deductive method

 
a) If we have a formula to find the area of a circle (General) then we will solve the problems by using formula ( This is a particular). 


b) We have a formula for the solution of the linear simultaneous equations (general). The students find the solutions of some problems like based on formula (specific).

 

Merits of this method


• It is time Saving method.
• It is Suitable to all topics
• It is Suitable to all Students
•It Glorifies Memory
•It Useful at Revision Stag
•In higher stage for speed and efficiency this method is used.

 

Demerits of this method

 
• It is not a psychological Method No Originality and Creativity.
• It makes Blind Memorization.
• It is Educationally Unsound.
• Students are Passive Learners.
• Reasoning is not clear in this method.
